Friday 2 Oct
We were very surprised that we were still
scheduled to port in Cabo. We have heard
that none of the tours were affected by the hurricane damage but we will be the
first ship to dock in Cabo since then as all the others continued down to Manzillo
or Puerta Vallerta. It is a rainy day
here in Cabo and I have elected to stay on the ship as I do not like tenders
(the small boat that takes you to shore)
They had difficulty with the tenders this morning because of the wind
and the waves but finally got everybody off after 2 hours… B went ashore to check out the lay of the
land so I may post an additional report after talking with him later. However from the ship we can see the hotels
and beaches. NO ONE is there – most of
the hotels and condos have no glass in the windows. Supposedly the boardwalk is 80% improved but
we will see…
We have been enjoying the ship so far… HAL has cut back on staffing tho and they
only have 2 cruise staff – the Cruise Director and the Activity guy – Joel. He is from New Zealand and works very
hard. He does all the sports, pub
quizzes, disco and any other duties as assigned… They have divided the sporting events into Men’s
& Women’s Olympics. The first event
was ring too – which I suck at and B did not score. But the next event was golf chipping and I
scored the highest of all the contenders – men or women. So I am currently tied with the lady who won
the ring toss. Bean bag toss on Saturday
will determine the leaderboard! Go
me! Brian said if he did not win at
Baggo he was gonna turn the ship around…LOL!
My trivia team is pretty terrific – my friend
from Australia, Greg is on it and a guy from Georgia, 2 REALLY smart Asians and
a Canadian lady from Nova Scotia. We are
in the running from the Team Trivia and are kicking ass at Pub Trivia in the
evenings. Also we are doing well at Name
That Tune. Unfortunately for me 2 of the
activities are just before and right after dinner – so I have to rush to join
our table and I have to leave early… But
trivia is fun for me so…
Brian is holding his own in the casino and has
curried favor with all the casino crew by bringing chocolates most
evenings. We have finally found a small group
of poker players, so have been playing a bit on the Poker table that is a
machine. I haven’t won a tourney yet but
am doing ok at the cash games.
We had a marvelous meal 2 nights ago with Greg,
Anna, Susan and Dusty at the Pinnacle Grill.
I had giant tiger shrimp cocktail, Caesar’s salad (which they made at
the table) and an amazing fillet. Others
had halibut, lamb chops and fish medley.
Desserts were also terrific – fresh berries, volcano cakes, soufflés &
crem brule’. Our waitress was Mei from
Bali and Jess, she is thirty and interested – Dad showed her your photo and she
thinks you are very handsome… lol! Brian’s
birthday is the 6th and we will celebrate it at The Pinnacle Grill
with the same gang and we have requested Mei for our waitress again… This is the restaurant that costs a bit extra
but we think is very worth it.
Well the weather is still gray and dreary but I
am typing this by the back pool and the Jacuzzis are calling… Have a great weekend Vaya Con Dios Y’all
You do know it is Friday the 3rd, right?? hehehe I knew when we were texting you were a little confused about yesterday being Wednesday ... its that whole shipboard thing, I know!! Have some more fun for me!!
ReplyDeleteIf you posted a pic of the craft you bought in Florida, I couldn't see it Just an empty square. Sounds like your trip is going great. You and Susan should be coming home with all the poker money. I expect no less. Ask Anna to ask her cycling friend for recommendations for cycling in Europe. Say hi to Anna & Greg and Susan & Dusty - and Brian. Adios I missed your post about the fitness center. LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh btw I haven't started cycling yet but it's a bucket list item and one can't be too prepared. Ciao
